The Cooperative helps
bring the latest in scientific findings, research and technology to the
farming practices of its grower members. It acts as a clearinghouse
of information
and resources and provides members with educational opportunities with
some of the most renowned and respected agricultural scientists.
Over the years the Cooperative has spent millions of dollars on Everglades research,
Lake Okeechobee research, air and water quality monitoring and the other broad
issues that our individual members would have neither the time nor the experience
to undertake alone. We will continue to do our part to protect the environment
for future generations.
Our mill facility utilizes
special stack scrubbers to virtually eliminate
all but trace quantities of particulate matter from the steam leaving our mill.
Over 90% of the particulate matter is captured this way and prevented from entering
the atmosphere.
Each year EAA farmers make a net contribution of 173 billion gallons of clean
water to the Everglades ecosystem which helps replenish the lower cast coast
well fields and provide needed water for the natural environment.
Each acre of sugarcane removes 33 tons of excess carbon dioxide from the air
and returns 21 tons of fresh oxygen.
Our mill utilizes the co-product of sugarcane processing, bagasse, as a solid
fuel source in our boilers to generate steam and electricity for powering our
mill. By utilizing bagasse we eliminate the need to bum an equivalent of 31 million
gallons of fossil fuel oil each year.
